Easter Thoughts

Friday--
the sting of death is all around.
the sense of defeat.
the overwhelming disbelief.

Saturday--
despair sets in.
feelings of abandonment abound.
the overwhelming disbelief.

But Sunday's Comin'--
joy abounds.
truth wins out.
the overwhelming relief!

Enjoy and Celebrate a Blessed Easter
He is Risen!!

Have a Coke(zero) and a Mile.

I may have actually gotten a good start on the "get in better shape" highway. I have not had a real, classic, fresh, ice cold coca cola in 10 days. I have tried Coke Zero from Chic-fil-a's fountain once and that was tolerable to fend off the cravings. Of course, on the way to work this morning 7-11 was informing all of us unsuspecting addicts that 32oz. Big Gulps are only .69 this month. This is not information that I needed to know!!

I have also exercised at least 8 of those days. Yesterday I actually thought I'd try running again, and I made it a little more than a mile (13 minutes). Not bad after being away from it for about 5 weeks. I made it 16 minutes tonight, so maybe I might actually be on the right road. I keep thinking that I will feel better if I just stick with it.

So this week and next---no Coke, no eating after 7:30 pm as much as possible, no Hot Tamale candies, and up the running to 3 times a week for 20 minutes.

If you see me on the "get in better shape"highway try not to run me over, especially if you are running faster and getting in shape sooner, just wave and smile and know you'll always be better at it than me.

SPT- April Challenge- Gifting

This month's challenge is all about gift giving, not spending money but gifting with your gifts to show appreciation and love to those in your life. This week is a gift to your family.
Here is my self-portrait of me doing something I rarely do, with recipe, apron, planning, the whole nine yards.
Once or twice a year maybe--I will present to my loving family...
Swedish Meatballs.

We'll see you again in 6 months....

I once was a young woman
who never gave a second thought,
to skipping a day of exercise
or eating pasta by the pot.

Then I started feeling pudgy
and began to feel so old.
I went to the doctor to get checked out,
and that's exactly what I was told.

You have high cholesterol,
here's a pill for that
Your thyroid seems to be out of whack,
here's a pill for that

You have the onset of arthritis
I find it in your second toe
It could be in your knees and fingers
what else would like to know?

It seems my efforts to get in better shape
might have been too little and too late.
I wish I saw even just a glimmer of hope,
But all I can see is an ice cold glass of coke.

Memories light the corners of my mind....

When we arrived home from vacation last week Jenna discovered that Middle School Show Choir tryouts were going on and she had missed the day when they taught the dance they had to know. We had a little drama and some tears trying to figure out how to learn everything in order to be ready. Luckily a wonderful 7th grader (thank you Emily) who is already in Show Choir was willing to come over to our house and teach Jenna and Savanna the dance so that they wouldn't feel so lost. I thought it was interesting that they taught them this dance and required that they perform it in the audition but they just had them sing off the cuff, The National Anthem, hello.. the most butchered song in America...who sings that well? Okay...maybe Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston, but not Middle Schoolers. And on top of all that hoop jumping--the boys did not have to dance at auditions. Needless to say I don't really think this was the best thought out way of auditioning for anything. But all that to say they made it!!

This brought up all the memories of my showchoir days. I was in it in Jr. High and High School. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the Jr High version but my High School Show Choir was named "Friends" we were ahead of the Friends you all know and love. Although we did not have Chandler or Phoebe we certainly had our share of geeks characters. Those really were some fun times in my life. I found these hideous lovely photos to post as evidence to the appalling tuxedos and hair styles. Jenna still dresses up in the wine colored dress. Was I ever that skinny? Of course I thought I was huge.

Anyway... Congratulations Jenna, Savanna, Emily and the others who made Bethany Middle School Show Choir.

Don't have a Coke and a Smile:)

In my quest to get in better shape and be healthier lose all this freakin' weight. I am once again trying to give up Coca-Cola. I drink the hard stuff--no diet or Coke Zero for me, so when I go on these little journeys I have to go "cold turkey" (thus the photo). I have a photo that represents the old adage
"a picture's worth a thousand words" absolutely perfectly. I feel as if the need for a coke is looming over me. The first week is always the worst. I am not going to let the stress get to me.
